About Us
Healthy Rural California (HRC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to improving public health and expanding healthcare workforce education in rural Northern California. By building partnerships and coalitions, HRC eliminates health disparities, increases the number and quality of providers, and supports critical needs such as mental health and opioid-use disorder. Accredited GME programs in family medicine and psychiatry train culturally responsive physicians to serve underserved communities. Community health initiatives focus on mental health, substance use and chronic disease, and host health fairs and educational programs that improve access and equity. HRC leads the Chico Community Prevention Coalition to prevent youth substance use and supports the Butte-Glenn Opioid Safety Coalition and COPE program for naloxone distribution. MedEd Clubs and the Health Professions Pathways Program offer mentorship and paid internships to high-school and college students from underrepresented backgrounds, building a diverse local healthcare pipeline. The Healthy NorCal Project connects residents with resources for housing, food, transportation, utilities and safety. Through these efforts, HRC strengthens rural communities and advances health across Northern California.
