We are just four days away from our next monthly community hike! This month we will be hiking at Paradise Lake on Saturday, March 12th starting at 8:30 AM. Our upcoming hike is open to a variety of abilities. We are aiming to provide hikes for everyone in our community so everyone has the opportunity to experience the wonders of the outdoors. We will meet for this hike at the entrance of Lucretia Road, and there will be a parking fee ($3.00) at the pay station before the parking lot. This is an easy, family-friendly hike through the forest around the lake with beautiful views on a wide trail. This year we will be offering two hikes; one hike will cover the front half of the lake, the other hike will cover the back half of the lake. After everyone meets at the Lucretia Road parking lot, we will divide into two groups. Both hikes are equal distance and difficulty. If you are joining us and have a physical condition or disability: The pay station at the entrance is not accessible. When you arrive, go directly to the parking lot. There will be a staff or volunteer with pay envelopes for you to fill out and add your money to, and they will take it back up the hill to the box. There is only one designated accessible parking spot for a van in the lot. There are a few spots that are very close to the paved walkway that can be saved if needed. There is one accessible (portable) bathroom at the beginning of the trail located on a paved walkway to the right of the parking lot. There are portable toilets along the trail, but they are not accessible. The trail is not labeled "accessible". However, it is very wide to accommodate a wheelchair (maintenance trucks fit on it). The surface is hard packed, but does have a few spots where there is gravel, and larger rocks to watch out for. There are a few steep declines and inclines at the beginning. There will be volunteers present to provide support at any of these points if you need it. This hike is an out and back trail- 2 miles out, and 2 miles back, for a total of 4 miles. Our turn around point is at a boat launch on the other side of the lake, off North Lake Rd. There is a second access point for cars at this boat launch. If you only want to hike the 2 miles out, there is an option to park another car at the boat launch and exit the hike from there. If you need specific accommodations or have questions, please contact Aaron at 530.876.4151 48 hours before the hike or email us at aaronsinger@paradisestronger.org For this hike we recommend that you bring comfortable hiking shoes, a water bottle, and layers of clothes. The group will be meeting at 8:30 A.M. at the lake. You also have the option of meeting us at the Paradise PRPD office, which is at 6626 Skyway, at 7:40 to caravan to the lake. The Caravan will leave PRPD at 8:10 A.M. We should finish the hike and be back to town around 11:30 A.M.
